Sovereignty Beyond Neoliberalism
How are changes in the global political economy transforming sovereignty, and what alternatives to neoliberalism could enable more just green transitions?
This research stream of the After Order project considers how neoliberalism, as a regime of accumulation, has transformed the exercise of sovereignty, and how, in turn, such transformation has undermined neoliberal order.
In addressing pressing questions about the causes and implications of growing disorder, our research explores in particular the changing relations between the state, capital, society, and nature. In doing so, it draws connections between the exercise of sovereignty ‘outwards’ from the nation-state, and its exercise ‘inwards’.
Exploring ecological implications of the neoliberal regime of sovereignty, this stream also considers the possibility for just green transitions in a regime beyond neoliberalism.
