Paul Heritage is Professor of Drama and Performance at Queen Mary University of London and Artistic Director of People’s Palace Projects. His work focuses on arts, human rights, and participatory performance, shaped by early involvement in the LGBT equality movement. He has led major arts-based initiatives in prisons in the UK and Brazil, collaborating with Augusto Boal’s Forum Theatre practice, and with Boal’s Centre for the Theatre of the Oppressed, Rio de Janeiro. As a producer, he has partnered with leading UK institutions to present Brazilian theatre internationally. His current research explores culture, climate, public health, and social justice. He was made a Knight of the Order of Rio Branco by the Brazilian government in 2004 and awarded an MBE in 2025.
