The latest event in Alameda’s After Order Working Paper Series, featuring sociologist and digital politics scholar Paolo Gerbaudo.

In this Q&A session, Gerbaudo will present his new working paper, Clouds and Territories: Rethinking the Relationship Between Space, Technology and Power in the Digital Era.

The paper explores the growing entanglement between digital technology and geography, challenging the notion that the digital world exists beyond territorial boundaries. Gerbaudo examines how information infrastructures, from cloud computing systems to AI technologies and digital platforms, have become central to geopolitical competition and state power.

The paper argues that questions of territory remain fundamental to understanding power in the digital age, as governments and corporations increasingly compete to control the infrastructures that underpin contemporary social, economic and political life.

Joining the conversation is Paris Marx, author and host of the Tech Won’t Save Us podcast, whose work critically examines the politics of technology and the influence of the tech industry on society.

The discussion will be chaired by Anna de Mello, Alameda’s After Order Coordinator.
